Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Divorce Questions

I live in Georgia, and my husband lives in Illinois. I want to know if I can file in Georgia and have him served in Illinois and make him pay for this. I want it to be uncontested. I don't want anything from him and our daughter is 18 and lives on her own.

Re: Divorce Questions

Where you file depends on additional facts. It takes both parties agreeing to make it uncontested. Right off the bat, you say that you want to "make him pay for this," which might not be the best way to initiate an "uncontested" divorce. Retain a lawyer, who might be able to contact him and work out the uncontested divorce before hitting him with service and demands to pay.

Re: Divorce Questions

Your post asks for opposite things. In an uncontested divorce you don't make anyone do anything. Both parties sign an agreement in advance and no one is served. This can be very inexpensive. Call me to discuss the details.
