Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Opposing counsel's leave delays 3 year-old divorce

My husband filed for divorce three years ago. We received a November date for the final hearing in our case several months ago. Earlier this month his attorney filed a Leave of Absence notice. The case has now been continued. The court calendars are full. As a result, our case probably won't be heard until January or February of next year! Why and how would this be allowed, and what, if anything, can I do about this. As you can imagine, after three long, hard years, all I want is for this divorce to be over, but my husband has refused all reasonable settlement offers.

Attorneys are allowed, like anyone else, to have a life besides court cases. Leaves for other court cases, mandatory CLE courses, medical reasons and vacations are routine.
