if you have a valid doctors excuse and you are terminated can you still recieve severance?

Severance is not required by law in Georgia. Your entitlement to severance is based the contract, if any, with your employer. If your employer has a policy to provide severance, it may contain exceptions, such as when an employee was terminated "for cause." You should review any written policy that your employer may have, including any applicable provisions of the employee handbook. As the first reply stated, that is up to the individual employer. However, you may be entitled to unemployment compensation. Should you have any problem and be denied unemployment, you should consult someone like myself who handles unemployment appeals.
