Legal Question in Immigration Law in Georgia

I'm a resident of Atlanta (Fulton County), Georgia (USA) since December 2009.

Currently I'm in the USA on an H4 visa, dependent on my husband's H1B (work permit) Visa. Both our visas expire on Oct. 1, 2011.

However, we are going through an annulment currently, which is expected to be finalized very soon. I understand I will be out of status (illegal) after the signing of the annulment papers.

Please advise me how many days I will have from the date of annulment to leave this country (USA)?

Will I need to register with the consulate / embassy once I'm out of status? If yes, which consulate / embassy location (India or USA)?

Any other procedure to be taken on my part..?

Seeking an urgent response.

Thank you,

Arpita Dey

yes once your divorce you are no longer a dependent under your Husband's H-1B visa; therefore you lose your H-4 status.

Once out of status, you need to leave the U.S. immediately, dont stay past 30 days - you are accruing unlawful presence in the U.S. once the divorce is final.

If you wanted advice on how you could stay longer in the U.S. under another type of visa, feel free to contact me.
