A landlord is not typically responsible for those things, unless it is in the lease or the landlord was involved in the crimes. Did you check out the neighborhood in advance? We also do not have your lease to see if there is an early termination provision - you should know that. Either way, your safety should be the top priority so contact the landlord to work out a deal to move and settle any remaining money due (if there is no termination clause in the lease).
