No one here has your contract, or knows any other details that you chose to not tell us. You may very well be liable for damages and lose any earnest money. You should have known the answer to these questions, and known what you agreed to in your contract, before you signed it.

Since youa re buying a home, unless you were extremely foolish, you consulted with your own lawyer to review and negotiate the contract terms before you signed. Most real estate contracts have explicit provisions as to what happens when a date is missed, and who pays or does what. If the delay is your fault, typically you can be sued. If the delay is someone else's fault, some contracts give you remedies too.

No one here has read your contract. Your attorney has (and you should have read it too). Be aware that the sales agent represents the seller and not you (and is not a lawyer) so that person will not be able to help you. If you are unsure of what you signed, you need to call your lawyer.
