Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

I am renting an apartment in a comples, they sent a company to my apartment on 6 or 7 different ocassions to resurface my tub as it kept peeling. Over the course of time, the paint that the company started to cover my personal property as if they used some type of spray paint. They basically covered my diningroom table and laptop with film from the paint. I have thrown out my diningroom table, the laptop is still in working condition but there is paint film all over my screen, keyboard and speakers. I have contact them on many ocassions as was told that I would be conpensated for my belongings, but atthe same time they are playing yo-yo with me and do not want to pay me for my things. This has been going on for months and I am going to refuse to pay my rent until I am compensated for my things because I have given them ample of time to treat me fairly and they are not doing anything about it at all. Please advise me on how I should handle this situation?

Dont stop paying rent under any circumstance. Your obligation to pay rent is separate from their obligation to reimburse you. If you have not done so already consider putting your demand for repayment in writing with an invoice or estimate for the cost to fix and politely demand that they pay up within a reasonable time, say 30 days. If they dont pay up your recourse is to sue them, likely in small claims court. Consider hiring a lawyer if you take this step.

Best of luck.***** The above is for informational purposes and does not establish an attorney-client relationship.

If you stop paying rent you will be evicted and will likely owe additonal money.

Make a 10 day written demand for payment, via certified mail, with estimates attached. If they refuse, sue them in Magistrates Court. You should consult with a lawyer to assist in drafting your small claims case.
