Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia
I left the scene of an accident. I have never broken the law before. I was told by the other party involved it was fine to leave since it was not my fault. Now I have a detective and police dept. wanting me to come in and give a statement as to what happened. Saying that I left the scene and that part of the accident was my fault. That is completley not true. I don't want to go to jail, but understand that I should have stayed. I just don't want to go to jail. Please help! I just want to give my statement but I just don't want to be held in jail all day. The detective said it should take an hour. Is he lying?

Get a lawyer immediately and do not give any statement without counsel. Do that today.
Hire a criminal defense attorney ASAP (before you are arrested, etc.) and DO NOT talk to any officer, detective, sheriff, or other law enforcement officer OR ANYONE other than your attoney once hired!! Contact one of the great attorneys on the Law Garu website (they are the best)
