Is my marrige legal in Australia

I was made to belive a man love me but he only wanted to get into Australia i married him in his country Ghana but he didnt come back to aus after marrige for he didnt have a visa i relised he only wanted to get into aus so i didnt help him get in.I would like to know if a marrige that is performed in Ghana is legal and recognised in Australia. I have not seen or spoken to this man in over 2 years. Thank you very much for your help.

Your marriage may or may not be recognised in Australia - I cannot tell at the moment without more information. You can either call me or email me direct. A separate question is whether you can prevent your "spouse" from migrating here. Before you contact DIMIA, you ought to seek advice from a solicitor.

If you have entered into a valid marriage in Ghana then that marriage will be recognised in Australia. Moreso unless you obtain a divorce, should you re-marry you will have committed the crime of bigamy. I suggest that you issue an application for divorce in Australia. You will need to file a copy of your Ghanian Marriage Cerificate.
