Copyright on DVDs

I recently purchased an ipod and wish to copy my dvds onto it. Are software package that break dvd encryption and convert them to other video formats legal - software like Cucusoft??

I don't konw Cucusoft in particular but read their agreement. Also read what the DVD says.......you can generally make a copy for personal use to copy in case your original is lost............but check each DVD
