Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois

Carpet installed is the wrong color

I selected a specific carpet to be installed in my house and put a down payment of $500 at the carpet store. Installers came by right before the holidays and removed old carpet and put padding down. When I came downstairs I found they installed the wrong color carpet - white of all colors. The company blamed the carpet mill and said they would remedy the situation after the holidays or give me a substantial discount on the white carpet. It is now after the holidays and the company is only willing to give me a 5% break on the white carpet. ($100 off of $1,500) or they will install the original carpet I ordered (sage) at the original price. I think after all the inconvenience this has caused me (painting and designing have been delayed because i don't know what color I'm going to be left with; in addition I will need to take another day off work for the re- installation; moving furniture around again and the entire hassle of the owners continuously shouting at me, etc) they owe me something. I think they should give me a discount for my original carpet that I ordered, because their mistake has caused me so much grief. They will not budge. What are my rights as a customer who has been put through the mill?

While all the aggrevation you have endured is unpleasant so long as they are willing to give yo what u ordered ... take it and get rid of them... you wont be compensated for the aggrevation and to try to sue for it will only cost you attorneys fees which you will have to pay. However if you have a written contract then it should lay out your rights. it will govern not the common law.
