Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois

My son purchased a vehicle from a local car lot less than 2 weeks ago. He was VERY naive and there were multiple things wrong with the car from brakes to damaged interior (and plenty more). This past Saturday while driving, the driver's side axle broke on the car. There were no injuries though he and his family (wife & 2 sml children) were the occupants. He paid $1800 cash and still owes $600+ on the vehicle. What recourse does he have?

Unfortunately the Lemon Law would not apply here because it was not a "new" vehicle.

However you MAY have a claim if the vehicle was sold to your son knowingly having these defects making it unsuitable for the purpose of transport as a vehicle should be.

However the seller may say that the car was for parts only.

Look to see how the vehicle was advertised and what statements were made and any witnesses.
