Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

At 18 my dad took out student loans for college in my name, he co-signed. I was assured he would be paying them off & I would bear no responsibility for paying them off; when I asked why we were taking the loans out in my name, he said it was for the lower interest rates. Now he says he can't afford to pay them off for me & I am stuck with them, which I was fine with until a recent text exchange that heavily implied he never intended to pay them off himself at all; I was lied to. Do I have any legal recourse here?

Unless you have something in writing, you can do nothing. If are still in college and your parents are divorced, you can seek contribution from your father for future expenses.
