Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

My 17 yr old had an altercation with a young girl at a friends house, inwhich he threw a book at the young girl after she slapped him. The book hit the girl in the face and caused bruising. The parents of the girl went to the police department to file charges against him. They both attended the same school. The courts sent a order to appear to the wrong address, then a warrant was issued for my 17yr old son. I at first wanted the incident thrown out of court because they didn't try to contact a parent before issuing a warrant for a minor nor contact the school for a correct address. But now the States Attorney wants a jury trial for this. If convicted what is the worst and least can happen since this will be his first conviction. Thanks

If it's a misdemeanor, then technically up to 6 months in jail. But without seeing the charge sheet, it's hard to tell what's going on.

What the state's attorney charges someone with and what they actually did are often vastly different, and as a result, without looking at the complaint, it's difficult to predict possible outcomes.
