Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Felony records

Can i get my felony records sealed? I have not been in trouble with the law since 2005, and looking at a great position with my job, however they run a background check, is there a way i can get those records sealed?

Re: Felony records

It depends ... a lawyer would need to know your complete criminal history before he or she could give you an answer. Most felony convictions can't be sealed.

Here is a good website to learn about expungement and sealing:

Re: Felony records

It all depends on the felony and what the disposition of the case was (supervision, not guilty, probation, etc.) Some "Class 4" felonies can also be sealed: Class 4 felony drug possession and Class 4 felony prostitution. Arrests, supervision, and convictions for these cases can be sealed. You also must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor or placed on supervision for 4 years after you completed your sentence to seal your record. You may have to do a drug test if the arrest was passed with drug possession.

Hope this helps. Good Luck
