Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

My friend is the director of a state funded non-profit youth center for at risk kids. Most of these kids have issues, and one in particular, is trying to get him into trouble. My friend had to discipline this child for lying and stealing, and the consequence was the child could not attend for a week. The child called the police and said my friend verbally and physically abused her, which was completely untrue as there were witnesses to the entire situation. The police came to the center today to discuss the situation with my friend. He had them speak with those how had witnessed the encounter, and pointed out the child's brother who was still coming to the center. How worried should my friend be that this situation could further escalate?
