Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Meeting an underage girl as a friend

I am from the UK and i am thinking of meeting a girl i have met over the internet who is 15/16.I am 28 years old and male.

We have become good friends and would like to meet for a drink/lunch near Chicago.

I am aware that adult age there is 17.

I must stress that my motives are non sexual, and purely two friends meeting.

Could there be any adverse repercussions to this, esp if her family find out.

Is this the ''right'' thing to do?

many thanks.

Yes, this is a violation of several criminal statutes, best to wait until she is seventeen unless you want to be a guest of the state of Illinois for several years.

Re: Meeting an underage girl as a friend

Do not meet this person.

First, it is likely a "sting" operation and you will likely be arrested. Second, her family should know of your meeting, as she is a minor. Third, she can't meet for a "drink" because the drinking age is 21. Fourth, you know that this is not the "right" thing to do, so don't do it.
