Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Illinois

In house Company dating

We do not have a company employee handbook (as of yet) I met a guy at work and do not work in the same department but I was told I could not date him or one of us would be fired. Can they legally do this?

A company policy doesn't have to be in writing, but if they fire you for dating him, they may also have to fire him for dating you. Stay away from office romance, and you'll be better off.

If you MUST, then what you need to do is get the policy in writing, which shouldn't be a problem but then you're right back to square one.

Better still, get on the committee that's writing the employee handbook, and help draft a reasonable and flexible policy. They need to define what the difference is between steady lunch partners, and those people who are 'dating', don't you think?! :o))

Good luck!
