what steps do i take to get my money back from my lawyer which was overpaid?

You don't give very many details. What makes you believe that the lawyer was overpaid? Did you agree to the fee? Was there a contract? Are you just dissatisfied with what happened? Did the lawyer do all the work promised? There a lot of unanswered questions.
