Legal Question in DUI Law in Illinois

possession of alcohol by a minor

I was arrested for possession of alcohol by a minor. The officer gave me only a city ordinance, not a state charge so I was wondering if this will be on my criminal record since its only a city fine.

Re: possession of alcohol by a minor

In Illinois possession of alcohol by a minor is a Class A misdemeanor which is punishable with a fine up to $2,500 and/or up to one year in jail. Depending on the circumstances and facts of your case you may just get hit with a fine. Depending on the disposition of the case, it may or may not be on your record, however, if it is, it can possibly be expunged after a period of time. Would need to know more information. Good luck!
