Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

The adoption of a minor child

How long and what might a person expect in this type of situation: There is a minor child (15) and based on her best interest her mother is going to allow another person to have guardianship. This person is a very good male friend of her mothers. This person is her mothers ex-fiance'and they were all going to be a family but things didn't exactly work out but the child still wants to be with this man and have him act as her father so that she can be raised by him and so that she can also be raised with his two children. the mother has cancer and feels that it will soon be her time to go because she has been told this by doctors so she wants him to adopt her before she dies so approximately how long would this process take and what would one expect out of it?

Re: The adoption of a minor child

We assume that the intent is for the male friend to adopt the child. He would not be a guardian but a legal parent if he adopts the child. If there is no objection from family or a court-appointed guardian ad litem, and the adoption is shown to clearly be in the best interest of the child, the process could be completed in 3-4 months.
