Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

In a divorce decree and child custody the petition says the tax exemption was to be with the mom. For over a year now the child has resided with dad and petition was entered to have custody and legal residence with dad. However mom says the original petition says she can declare child. Is this correct and how do we change.
