Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I'm trying to get a divorce but my husband is very controlling and I don't know where to start. He is also very verbally abusive and though he has never hit me he gets in my face and screams and calls me names in front of our children. Scared of what he will do once he finds out what I'm doing. Please help.

We are not therapists. As attorneys we can help you through the process of a divorce, but you may need non-legal assistance to cope with the process. Screaming may be a basis for an order of protection which you could obtain when you file for the divorce, but his ability to control his actions and not striking you may work in his favor. Each judge handles issues of this type differently.
