Re: help in finding help for legal name change

Well, here's a thumbnail: you file a name change petition in cook county, Daley Center, rm. 1202. Same day you go to court and get a return court date in about six weeks. Meanwhile, you must publish legal notice of the name change case that runs for three weeks. When you come back to court you just show the judge proof of the publication and an order is entered w/ the new name. You might look at http://www.illinoislegalaid.org/ for assistance.

Is this related to a previous divorce? This may not be necessary if a divorce allowed for a name change.
