Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Moving away from my father secretly at age 17.

I want to move out of my home and live with my grandparents, whom live in another state. Is it legal? Would I be forced to come back to my parents? My mother is not the problem, it is my father. He is verbally abusive to my mother and I. my mother is too afraid to leave him! What can I do? I turn 18 in February, but I can't wait that long to get away from his cruelty. He has never physically abused me, but he has left marks on my mother.

You can apply to the court for emancipation - or you can ask your grandparents to intervene through DCFS or the court system. Either way, you cannot do this easily on your own.
