Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

My dog was given back to his former owner because of a reciept.

My ex-boyfriend and I used to live together and decided to mutually buy a dog. We purchased a Husky and because of the lack of money in my account due to paying all the rent 3 days previously we used his account to pay for the dog. Now over a year after we broke up he came back to get his stuff and brought the reciept with him, called the police, and had my dog taken out of my home. what can i do about this? I have to get him back!

If you never paid anything toward the dog, or can't prove that you did, and your ex-BF can prove that he paid for the dog, then there isn't much you can do. It's not like a child where you can fight for custody, pets are considered property. The most sensible thing you can do is buy yourself a new dog.
