Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Landlord's responsibility to damaged vehicle in a rented secure parking space

I rent a parking space from my Condo building for a rather high monthly rate. This space is within a parking garage and it is suppose to be secure from outside influences.

The garage door was damaged to a point where it needed to be replaced. After one month of it not being fixed I was told the garage door was on order.

Last week someone entered the garage and vandalized and/or stole from 4 cars in this garage, mine included. My car was damaged pretty badly and a repair center said the cost would be approx $2000.

Can I hold my condo association/owners responsible since they did not keep my garage space secure???

It all depends on the content of the bylaws controlling your dealings with the Association. Without that, it will be only a guess as to whether there is or there is not liability.

You must examine the by-laws and/or declarations to determine whether the landlord has cushioned his liability.
