Emergengy medical bills

My mother had a severe brain stroke. She is not a US citizen or green card holder. Her medical bills are very expensive and I cannot pay. The hospital say that she needs to have a power of attorney. My question is if I refuse to become power of attorney then will my citizen will be denied? I am green card holder. Please advice.

Hello. In my opinion, the hospital

wants you to have a power of attorney

for making medical decisions while

your mother is incapacitated. However, since she has had a stroke she may not be competent to grant you a power of attorney. I suggests that you open a disabled person's estate with the Circuit Court. This is a procedure where you will need to hire a lawyer. Otherwise, the process can be quite a headache, if you are unfamiliar with the process. The Court can name you guardian of your mother's estate and person and will appoint a person on the court's lists to visit your mother and report to the Court that she is disabled.
