Re: Requirement for visit

You do not want a Jamaican citizen to enter the U.S. on a visitor visa and then marry a U.S. citizen right away. First, a Jamaican citizen contemplating a visit to the U.S. is required to return to his or her country prior to the expiration of their period of stay. I would suggest he or she visit, return to Jamaica, and then petition for a fiance visa. To visit the U.S., the alien will need a letter of invitation, and assurances that the person inviting him or her can support that person while they are here. I suggest you obtain the services of a good lawyer to get you through this one -- if you make a mistake, your friend may be ineligible to come back to the U.S. Good luck!
