Come to find out my insurance had lapsed, therefore, no insurance at the time of accident. i have to go to court for the accident and the other party involved told me to get a lawyer. What is going to happen with no insurance, and will I be able to go on a payment plan fo rhte costs involved in the repairs, and is ther jail time involved? Please help!

Re: Auto accident

To answer directly your question - There is no jail time.

When you say you have to "go to court" is that because you received a ticket for not having insurance?

If so, you will need to address that with a traffic attorney but it is my understanding that you will need to purchase auto insurance for the car you were driving at the time of the accident and pay a fine. The fine is supposed to be $500 but it is usually assessed in the amount of $100 plus costs.

You will need to take "financial responsibility" for the car repairs if you caused the accident. If you were not at fault then you do not have to pay for the damage. If you fail to take responsibility for the repairs, your name can be referred to the Secretary of State and your driver's license can be suspended.

I hope that this provides you with some answers.

Good Luck,
