Legal Question in Insurance Law in Illinois

I drove a friends car and got a ticket for no insurance. Yet I had full coverage and the friend did not tell me that he had no insurance on that car. The officer said that if we show that we have proof of insurance the charges will get dropped. However my friend will not get insurance. Will the charges get dropped? Or am I stuck paying the ticket worth about $1350?

In most cases, if you can prove that the insurance you had in effect covered you while driving your friend's car, you will be able to avoid a conviction. Of course, everything would depend upon exactly what you are charged with, the specific state's attorney involved, the particular judge involved, and the specific facts of your case. Considering the amount you mentioned, it seems apparent that you should hire an attorney to represent you in court.

I agree with Mr. Nack. I recommend getting your insurance card, policy, bills, and a letter from your agent showing you had valid insurance on the date of your ticket, and then go contest your ticket. YOU, had insurance. Your friend did not.
