Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Illinois

Full rights to someones written work.

How would i legally word asking permission to use someones (non-published) written work (as i see fit) in my own work to eventually be published and not have them legally come after me for any profits Ive made or for plagiarism?

EX. By signing below you give me full rights to you written work.

Re: Full rights to someones written work.

You don't need a lot of words, but you must be very clear in what you are asking for (e.g., non-exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual rights to modify, distribute and redistribute the work as you see fit) and that the person who is granting you the right has the power to do so.

I doubt that someone intends to give you the "full rights to [their] written work" as that would leave them with no rights to use their own work or further license the work to others, but if that is what you are asking, you must be clear.

I suggest that you discuss this with your attorney and make sure that what you come up with meets your specific goals.
