Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Illinois

internet images and reproduction

I edit a medical journal (local publication) and we often want to use images from the internet or other sources. If we site the source (such as: photo by Associated Press), are we violating copyright law. Do we need express permission? Does it matter if it is not for profit? What could happen?

Re: internet images and reproduction

If it is not for profit...it can be argued as fair use. It is better to take permission for images you use.
