Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Illinois

Personal property given to a friend and wants it returned.

My girlfriend received a friendship ring from a "friend" of hers when she was 15 and now the "friend" wants this ring back after eight years. She keeps calling and threatening to bring in the police claiming that it's stolen. My girlfriend hasn't seen the ring in years and can't locate it. The ring has no value to it and the friend has no receipt to prove how much it's worth even though she says the value is $200. Is there a statute of limitations on when someone gives you something that it becomes the property of the recipient over a period of time if it isn't requested to be returned by the original owner?

A gift, once made, is irrevocable. It can NEVER be taken back, ever.
