Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

I am 5 months in on a two year lease. My lease says that my landlord cannot advertise the property for rent until 90 days or less before the lease expires which would be a year and about 6 months from now. I discovered that he is advertising the property on craigslist and has not told me about it. People have been driving slow by the house and looking at it. Has my landlord violated the lease agreement by doing that?

Has he listed it for lease or for sale? He can certainly sell the property, but if you have a valid two year lease, and you are complying with its terms, you get to stay there for two years.

As Mr. Moens says, if the ad is for sale and not lease, probably not. Then again, without seeing the lease language it is possible the clause is your typical "no for rent signs on the premises" which means he can place paper ads, just nothing on the property itself. Why he'd do that doesn't make sense, so unless the lease says something different, I'll go w/ Mr. Moens' thought, and now that the placed is leased to you, it can be sold as an investment.....
