How long does a landlord in Illinois have to return a security deposit if not in Chicago, Evanston, etc.?

1. State law: in buildings with 5 or more rental units: 30 days unless the landlord claims damages in which case up to 45 days with other requirements;

2. There are communities other than Chicago and Evanston with their own requirements, and certain kinds of housing with their own;

3. In smaller buildings where there is no local ordinance or other requirements, the lease may control if reasonable, but if there is no lease then there is no specific time requirement.
