Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Illinois

Can I ask for a jury in small claims court in IL if I'm defendant

I'm being sued by my former attorney for fees he claims I owe. I am defendant and plan on filing a counter-claim for legal malpractice for the same amount he's seeking. Can I request a jury instead of judge??

Yes. But get a copy of the rules of court because if you don't do it correctly you may waive the right. You can represent yourself, but you must still follow the same rules that lawyers have to follow.
