Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

I was assaulted at a bar and the person who assaulted me claims that i was hitting on his girlfriend before he assaulted me but that's completely untrue. I am now suffering from ptsd from the incident and am wondering if his false accusation is going to affect a law suit that I might have to bring up against him. Can you give me an answer?

First you need to get medical care so that your injuries, all of them, are properly documented and a proper medical diagnosis, prognosis and a course of treatment is indicated. This will also be the basis of any lawsuit you decide to bring against anyone.

Second, you cannot control one way or another and prevent someone from formulating a defense and file those defense (whatever they may be) in defense of the lawsuit. Ultimately, a jury will decide who is telling the truth and who is lying.

Third, if you were assaulted in a bar, you may also have a cause of action against the Bar and whoever owns the property upon which the bar is located. This is called a Dram Shop cause of action.

If you were injured, you will do yourself the biggest favor by talking to a personal injury lawyer immediately before you, inadvertently, harm your case by things you may say or do.

I hope this helps-
