Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

My car was taken without my consent/permission by my son's friend while I was out of the country. He searched my bedroom and found my hidden car keys, took the car out of the garage while drunk, and slammed into garage next door, causing damage to my vehicle ($6200), and the building ($8-15k). I want to sue this "friend" of my son's for theft of my vehicle and for the damage he caused. My son has his name and phone number, but the guy is not answering his phone and cannot be found at this time. What options do I have to sue him and take the onus of responsibility off my back for something I was not involved in?
