Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Does boyfriend's children have any rights to our home.

I have lived with my boyfriend for 8 years, last year we bought a house, but the mortgage is in my name only. He is 16 years older than myself, in the event my boyfriend should pass, will his kid's have any rights to our home?

Hello. That is a very good

question since there are a

number of unmarried couples

who live together. As long

as your boyfriend's name is

not on the deed, or the

mortgage, his children do

not inherit this property.

Not if the property is 1) owned solely by you, or 2) owned by both of you, but in joint tenancy. You should have an attorney advise you as to the benefits and ramifications of either of these suggestions for your particular circumstance.
