Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I own a home in Broadiew, Il. I have given the tenant 5 day notice, plenty of warning and plenty of time to pay...she is always very late...and so am I on my mortgage payment which is now making my credit look bad. Question: The water bill for this home is quite large and my status is in financial hardship also as I am laid off my job I cannot pay this bill, so the village will be shutting the water off making the home uninhabitable...they will then be asked to leave the house due to unsanitary conditions which is almost there now anyway. A friend told me that if they have to leave cause I could not pay the water bill that I am responsible to find them a place to live?????? They are going to be evicted anyway and the village knows this. Is it true due to my hardship I must find them a home?? Marianne

Dear Marianne;

Your duties are spelled out in the lease. I assume that there is, in fact, a written lease. I would recommend, strongly, that you have an attorney review that document sooner than later. Good Luck!
