Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I moved out of a living situation with a best friend, because of a huge blowup. I have documentation that I offered to find someone in my stead to take the apartment, but she was done talking to me. When the lease was up, she chose to renew it. The landlord said that when EVRYONE was off the the lease they would give the deposit back in one check. Of course that check went to the ex-best friend because she chose to renew (behind my back) and I didn't. She now is refusing to give me my half of the deposit, even tho I moved out with 30 days notice and offered to get a subletter, and I have multiple letters and emails from her that say she owes me/is going to pay me my deposit for $1050.

Do I sue her or the landlord?

So how much of "YOUR" half of the rent did she pay after you left?
