Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Security Deposit holding

I wanted to know legally how much can i file a claim against my landlord for. i moved out of the apartment july 2nd, 2005 and we did the walk thru for damages the following week he said he would ge back to me with the numbers an a itemized list. i called him a feww times to see how the list was going and he sort of blew me off and said he was working on it then about August 17 or 18 he called me and told me that he damages totaled about $2000 dollars and that since my security was $700 i would get $500 and he went on to tell me that i would get the check and the itemized deductions sheet Saturday August 20th, 2005. he said he would call me and we would meet up so i could collect my check. Aug. 20th came and he didn't calll i tried calling all his numbers and the voice mail boxes were full and no one picked up i have not heard a word from him since. so i wanted to know bu law how much am i entitled to sue him for and am i responsible for the damages since he failed to supply me with the itemized list within 30 days.
