Legal Question in Tax Law in Illinois

Income Tax Evasion

I have not filed my income taxes in three years. One reason being I did not have the money to pay if I owed the other being pure stupidity. I am now 24 years old married and have a child on the way. I want to own up to this problem, before the IRS contacts me. I would like some help on where to get started.

Re: Income Tax Evasion

The best advice I can give is to get with a qualified tax return preparer (if you can't do it yourself) and file all delinquent returns before you receive any notice. It's highly unlikely that any criminal charges will ever be considered with a voluntary disclosure. It doesn't matter if you have the money or not, you can always arrange for payments or attempt an offer in compromise if the financial condition warrants it. Remember interst and penalties are running so the sooner the better.
