Legal Question in Tax Law in Illinois

If i get married to someone who owes lots of state and federal taxes that have not been officially settled yet, and his money goes into my bank account, can the IRS come after my money or any property that i own right now?

It is best to not comingle funds in an account that might be levied by the IRS. When a levy takes effect, the IRS does not bother to see whose funds are there. If the taxpayer's Social Security number is on the account, they might take action to seize it.

It is usually a good idea to keep finances separate until the taxes can be straightened out.

Good luck to you. Let me know if you need assistance.
