Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

Last year my father's mother died a natural death. Her husband, which was my father's long-time step father and the only grandfather I ever knew (as my father's real father died when my father was 7) was very depressed about this. He soon became ill, and died just over a year later.

During his illness neighbors that they knew convinced him not to talk to my father or myself and talked him into making them Power of Attorney, even though my father already held Durable Power of Attorney. They had him in a hospital hidden from us and refused to reveal his location. When we found out, they refused to let us in to visit him. He died alone. These people, to the best of our knowledge, have sold everything he owned for their own gain. I am 900 miles away working in DC and had no idea. These people held a closed funeral and prevented my father and I from ever seeing it. They also manipulated him into changing his Will to exclude everyone but them.

Can we file any type of suit against them for severe emotional stress it caused?

Depending on the facts you may have a claim for undue influence or tortious interferrence with inheritance.

Because of the cost of litigation you need to know how much wealth is at stake.
