Cheque bounce Charges

I had open a citibank account and issued cheque to other banks . This account is closed as of now. during the last 2 yrs they have charged bounce charges for the same. In between i had clear all the outsanding . As i joined the new company my account to be openned again in the same bank. The Bank has come to me say that you have to clear the outstanding of the pervious account then we could open the new account

Bounce charges are legal. So if the bank ask yuo to make payment of the same before opening new account, then it is proper and valid

u say that u have closed the account with Citi Bank. If that were so, where is the question of outstandings. If on the other hand, you mean that u have allowed the earlier account inoperative, any bank with whom u want to open a new account would require u to clear the outstandings in the earlier account. That is perfectly legal.we don't see any legal problem in this.

The bank is right because once you issued cheques of your bank account than you are legally liable to make such arrangement to honour the issued cheques as the time for presenting the cheque is 6 months. you are liable to pay the bounce charges demanded by the bank

Details are missing.Citibank is well known for such mal practice.Since you have already cleared your dues hence demand on part of citibank is illegal.Demand a statement of accout from bank and contact me with detail of facts.

though the matter can be settled for less but you had been extremely negligent.

you try to negotiate with the bank and dont show your need.
