Did you mean that bride or parents of bride paid to groom or parents of groom rs. one lakh to meet/contribute in expenditure of marriage? Please clarify

No. Dowry means demand by husband or his parent for their own use or benefit as pre condition for marriage or after marriage by putting undue influance or pressure or threat on the girl or on her parents. Payment by you as contribution towards the marriage on your part is no dowry at all.

If one lack is condition precedeng for performaing of marriage, or it is a pressure demand then it comes under dowery.

Both bride and bridegroom are covered under dowery act, and not mere bride.

if there is something to show that they spent this money under pressure then only it will be dowry otherwise not.

paying dowry is also an offence so file complaint against them if they harass you.
