Dear Sir / Madam,

Section 379. Punishment for theft reads -

Whoever commits theft shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.

Theft includes the act of stealing of any goods or services which will cover theft of electricity too. The arrest and prosecution is valid.
