Legal Question in Family Law in India
Me and My father dont get along very well. I have been residing overseas since past 5 years and hold a permanent resident card. My father has a business and always wanted me to join him in the business. But I recently gently conveyed the message to him that I cannot and would not join him in his business as I am not a business minded person. We had a bit of heated argument and he challenged me that I cannot leave India without his consent. 2 days later, he has now forcefully impounded my passport. He came into my room, scared me for my life and demanded passport from me. What can I do about it? Passport Act states that only Central govt officer or Customs Officer can demand/impound a passport. Is there a legal way for me to get passport back from him and legally keep him away from my passport?

yes, you can seek orders from the court directing him to return your passport. you may see a lawyer for this purpose.
Yes. You can give a complaint and get back the passport from him. Nobody can do that except the officials concerned and that too for criminal offences committed by the person concerned. Otherwise every person has a right to have his passport without anybody else's interference. Your father has committed an offence by forcibly taking it from you and also not handing it over to you.
